Greece has experienced over 160 forest fires over the last 2 days resulting in immense expenses that will not help our already existing debt, that are destroying our beautiful forests and instilling fear, disappointment, helplessness and sorrow in our communities at an already extremely difficult time. Being at the forefront of the economic crisis, the image and reputation of Greece and it’s people to the rest of the world is questionable. This is not entirely unfounded, however, I think that it is important to show another side of our country as well.
The pictures that you will see are of the men and women, full-time and volunteers, that have devoted their lives to protecting our communities. These people display their unity, compassion, commitment, bravery, strength and courage daily to protect our country from the threat of fire and other dangers. Some of them are friends; all of them are colleagues and I am very proud of them and what they do and I would like to share this with you.
Greece does have solidarity and great qualities. It is, however, unfortunate that I have to use this example to demonstrate it. Please like this post to honour the efforts and commitment of these people.
