Strong winds hindering efforts to put out blaze in Corfu

A wildfire broke out in a forest area in northern Corfu on Tuesday evening and strong winds are hindering the firefighting operation, the provincial director of fire services in western Greece told ANA-MPA. Efthimios Georgakopoulos also said the flames are near the village of Vasilika and five firefighting vehicles have been sent to the spot, adding that the cause of the blaze is not known.

Volunteer teams rushed to the scene of fire helping the professional firefighters with water tankers, while strong winds blowing in the region made difficult the containment of the forest fire.
