Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection, Nikos Toskas, awarded the crew of the firefighting airplane Canadair, which made an emergency landing in Dervenohoria, and everyone else who contributed in rescuing the pilots.
The crew of the firefighting airplane Canadair, which was rescued after a very rough emergency landing during fighting the blaze in a big wildfire in Dervenohoria, has been awarded today by Deputy Minister of Citizen Protectin, Niko Toska, in an event that took place in Pavlos Bakogiannis auditorium. The crews of the two Ericson firefighting helicopters, which made water drops on the burning area where the airplane made the emergency landing in the morning of the 26th of June 2016 and contributed in the rescue of the pilots, were given memorial plaques. The firefighters which reached the landing spot and moved the pilots to a safe area have been honored too.
The Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection, Nikos Toskas, congratulated the crew of the firefighting airplane CL – 215, the squadron leader Taxiarchi Papamarko and the captain Ioanni Sedouxi. Nikos Toskas pointed that the offering and the sacrifice of the crew of the firefighting airplane, as well as of everyone else who made a huge effort fighting the blaze made a huge difference. Nikos Toskas also mentioned that, they showed a very high level of awareness of their mission towards the society. The Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection made a citation about the crew’s composure and their handling efforts which made it possible to land on the burning area, as well as for all the personnel that took part in the rescue mission.
The crews of the two Ericson firefighting helicopters, Don Mc Leod, Jeff Brenhaug, Marnix Pyle, Alkis Paraskevopoulos, Mike Strasser, Jeff Shelton, Gary Wilson and Sotiris Pasxos as well as the firefighter which reached first the landing spot, Colonel Ioannis Karakostas and Fire Captain Nestoras Apostolopoulos were also honoured.
In the event, among others, attended the General Secretary of Public Order Dimitrios Anagnostakis, the General Secretary of Civil Protection Giannis Kapakis, the Deputy General Secretary Tzanetos Filippakos, the Chief of the Hellenic Airforce General Staff Air Marshal Christos Vaitsis, the Chief of the Hellenic Police Lieutenant General Konstantinos Tsouvalas kai the Chief of the Hellenic Fire Service Lieutenant General Ioannis Karatzias.
