Although official authorities have not yet instructed the evacuation of villages and towns in northern Evia many residents have fled in fear of their safety and the raging fire reaching their homes.

Because of powerful winds this hour in the region of northern Evia, the partial resurgence of the fire in the forest region of the town of Limni (Lake) has occurred. At this time, all land and air forces that battle fires in the greater region have assembled to put out the wildfire.
The first light of day on Sunday showed enormous ecological destruction near the large village of Lake in northern Evia and “incalculable damages,” authorities said.
The fire began in the region known as Farakla at noon on Saturday and had spread to the seaside resort of Katounia in the Limni (Lake) area within a few hours.
The wildfire continued to sweep over northern Evia, burning roughly 2,000 hectares of forest on the island, and was under control all day Sunday until the afternoon, the fire brigade reported.
