In a special warning, the General Secretariat for Civil Protection said the danger of fire outdoors was “very high”, or at the fourth highest of five levels.

The civil protection secretariat instructed citizens to refrain from any outdoor activity that could negligently cause a fire, such as throwing lit cigarettes, burning branches and leaves after pruning, using machinery that could cause sparks such as welding devices and disc saws, having a barbecue etc.

All state services, regional and local authorities have placed on high alert.

The fire service can be reached by calling 199.
